With family and friends

The time you spend with the people close to you is the easiest thing in life to lose track of, because it rarely arrives as an occasion. It's a Tuesday, and then it's gone. You Rock is somewhere to keep those moments.

What to collect

Things you did together

The day out, the dinner you cooked for everyone, the trip you finally organised. Write down where you were and who was there. It's enough to bring the rest back.

Moments you helped make happen

You planned the party. You drove them to the appointment. You were the one who said let's do this before the summer ends. Those moments existed because you did something.

Being there when it mattered

Sitting with a friend through a hard week, having the conversation nobody wanted to start, showing up when it was inconvenient. Easy to forget, and among the better things you do.

Watching them grow up

If you're a parent, the first steps and first words are safe — it's the phase they went through last spring that disappears. Note what they did and what you did with them, while you can still remember the details.

When it pays off

  • When you feel you're never giving people enough time
  • Birthdays, anniversaries and speeches you have to write
  • Looking back at a year and seeing who was in it
  • After a stretch where things were difficult between you
  • When your kids are older than you can quite believe

Start collecting

Add moments as they happen, a few sentences at a time. Ordinary time with the people you love is worth just as much of a record as anything you achieve on your own.
